2012 National Call for Unity
Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 2:00pm to 2:45pm Central Time
Each year on this free 45-minute call, approximately 400 listeners have joined us, with many more listening together in counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, meeting rooms, at school and at home; each year our numbers continue to grow. This is a very special time for us to come together in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month to:
- Mourn those who have died because of domestic violence.
- Celebrate the advancements we have made to support those who have survived.
- Connect those within the movement to end violence against women and girls.
This year’s call will feature the story of Christi Paul, CNN Headline News Anchor. Ms. Paul is a survivor of domestic violence and recently published author of a very inspiring and empowering book, Love Isn’t Supposed to Hurt. She has a powerful voice and she uses it to help others in need, particularly children, as a Board of Directors member with Safe Kids Georgia and as an ambassador for Liz Claiborne’s Love Is Not Abuse.

Go Purple Day, Monday, October 15th
Join the Texas Council on Family Violence in observing Monday October 15, 2012 as Go Purple Day. Support funding for family violence services by joining the Purple Postcard Initiative (http://www.tcfv.org/our-work/legislative-legal-advocacy/purple-postcard-initiative). Wear purple to work on the 15th. Once you have your purple on, consider posing for some photos. Add a message about Go Purple Day to your website or facebook page. Make or buy and then deliver some purple food for your community partners. Consider thanking them for their efforts and ask them to continue to Go Purple everyday. We encourage you to Go Purple in your own way, whether it is on Go Purple Day or any other point during DVAM or the upcoming year.
There is power in numbers! TCFV strives to have more than 1000 members in preparation for the 83rd Texas Legislative Session and 113th convening of the US Congress. Membership helps further TCFV advocacy efforts which result in essential funding for family violence services and laws that assist victims of family violence.
