The TCFV’s Statewide Conference gathered leaders, advocates and allies to exchange ideas, discover fresh techniques and unite the many diverse faces of the Texas movement to end violence against women.
This year’s topics encompassed a range of statewide and national challenges — the growing number of family violence fatalities, the upcoming 83rd Legislative Session and the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). While we face challenges, the conference also offered a moment together to celebrate our successes — our vibrant momentum legislatively, the services and innovations Texas programs have adopted and the diligent work of all advocates.
Renowned writer and activist Gloria Steinem connected our movement’s generations with her sold-out keynote, “Feminism: Past, Present, and Future.” Conference attendees and community members had the opportunity to take a photo with Steinem and have books signed during the sold-out VIP Reception.
Our speakers and colleagues tested our collective thinking, invited new perspectives and connected our daily work to broader issues happening in our nation. We offer a special thank you to the 300 participants, presenters and staff who made the 2012 Statewide Conference a true step forward in the movement to end family violence.
