Details:  Pedal Thru The Pines is a cycling event benefiting the Family Crisis Center.  Participating cyclists may choose from routes of 16 miles, 27 miles, 50 miles or 62 miles.  Cyclists enjoy riding through the beautiful Loblolly Pines in Bastrop and Buescher State Parks and traversing the surrounding country roads of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties.  The routes provide a unique experience for cyclists of every level.  Well stocked rest stops, friendly volunteers and a top notch veteran SAG Team add to the success of this event.  The ride is a recommended training ride for the BP MS150.

Where:  Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, 2125 N. George Bush, Ste. 700
Details:  Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has designated all Tuesdays as New Beginning Day. Customers having breakfast, lunch or dinner will only need to tell the hostess that they support the New Beginning Center and Fuzzy’s will make a donation to the center based on the amount of the check.   Other merchants can get involved with the program as well by agreeing to contribute a percentage of proceeds from sales by customers who identify themselves as supporters of the New Beginning Center. Details: The Family Crisis Center’s Festival of Trees brings the community together for an evening of celebration and giving.  This holiday-themed event features live music and a “Taste of the Area”, with restaurants and caterers from Bastrop and surrounding areas offering hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages.  The event showcases many gifts of love that are generously decorated and donated by the community in order to raise funds that support the programs and services offered by the Family Crisis Center.  From decorated Christmas trees of all sizes to holiday wreaths, from gift baskets and gift certificates for local services to weekend trips and getaways, there is a wide range of items to enjoy throughout the year.

What: 20th Annual Dinner & Dance

Details: The Family Crisis Center’s Annual Dinner and Dance event is the agency’s longest-running fundraiser.  Each year, the theme of the event changes and the venue is transformed into an island paradise, a red carpet premiere, or a dance hall from the Old West.  Dinner and live music are provided, and guests are invited to participate in dance and costume contests.  The event also features a silent auction and a live auction.

Who: Women’s Shelter of South Texas

What: “Telling Amy’s Story”

When: October 4th at 5:30pm

Where: Del Mar College Center for Economic Development

Details: This special film screening shares the experiences of Amy, a woman in Pennsylvania whose husband murdered her in 2001 as she was attempting to leave an abusive relationship. The event is being conducted to highlight the need for consistent, coordinated services to help victims of domestic and sexual violence and will include a group discussion and question and answer session following the film. ”Telling Amy’s Story” is being sponsored by the Verizon Foundation and is free to attendees. Details: “Great Expectations” provides the opportunity for community partners to be recognized for their support of the agency and its mission to prevent and ultimately end domestic violence and sexual assault in South Texas. Entertainment for evening will be provided by Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes.
