Purpose and Mission: The African American Caucus addresses issues of violence within the African American communities throughout the state of Texas. The mission of the caucus is to bring about awareness of domestic violence within the various African American communities and families throughout Texas. The caucus addresses social, economical, and institutional oppressive issues that perpetuate and encourage domestic violence within the various African American communities throughout the state of Texas.

Membership

The Texas Council on Family Violence’s African American Caucus has been recognized statewide by advocates for its work against violence in Texas year after year. This year proves not to be any different from any other. The African American Caucus’s 2007 agenda will be filled with re- learning about our warm rich heritage, rejuvenation of spirit and souls, and critically thinking about and improving our roles in ending domestic violence in Texas for women of color. We are in the midst of open enrollment and want to extend an invitation to all activists of color to join the African American Caucus. Activities

In 2005, the African American Caucus organized a conference called “African Americans Building Stronger Communities Begins at Home.” The conference addressed social and economic issues that perpetuate and encourage domestic violence in the African American Community.

The African American Caucus also played an advisory role in creating TCFV’s new brochure, Our Community: Everyone’s Responsibility.” Copies of the brochure are available for anyone residing in Texas by calling TCFV at 800-525-1978.
