About The Liz Claiborne Teen Dating Abuse Helpline

Teens may be young, but it doesn’t mean they can’t get hurt in relationships. We’re not talking about broken hearts. We’re talking about broken arms.
Dating violence is not okay. It’s not okay for young men to hit young women—or vice versa.
Know anybody who’s having a problem with a boyfriend? Are you?
Starting in February, 2007, there will be someplace to call that’s just for teens.
Liz Claiborne Inc., is teaming up with the National Domestic Violence Hotline to get this hotline started. It’s all about helping teens. If you need it to be, it’s all about helping you.
Trained professionals and advocates who get how it feels to be a young adult will answer calls at the Teen Dating Violence Hotline and provide services and support to teens and young adults, and their families. Teens (and parents) anywhere in the country will be able to call the number, receive immediate advice and counsel with complete privacy and confidentiality, and learn how to tap into local resources to get the help they need to have normal, healthy relationships.
Teens and young adults will also be able to visit the Teen Dating Violence Hotline’s Web site, which will provide safe, confidential information on dating and relationship violence. Online message boards where teens can ask questions and share experiences, or just express their feelings will also be available.
The Hotline and Web site will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with teen peer advocates on the lines from 12 pm to 2 am, a time when many calls are expected. Young adult advocates ages 18-24 will also provide overnight services and support to serve more college-aged youth.
Did You Know?
According to a study conducted for Liz Claiborne Inc. by Teenage Research Unlimited(TRU), a third of teen girls in dating relationships fear for their physical safety; half of teens in serious relationships have compromised personal beliefs to please a partner; and a third of teens in serious relationships have been strongly controlled in what they do and where they go. Don’t let yourself be one of these statistics.
