BIPP Accreditation
Articles 42.12 and 42.141 in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure relate to accreditation and regulation of intervention programs for family violence offenders.
In late 2007, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice–Criminal Justice Assistance Division (TDCJ-CJAD) formed a committee to examine the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP) Guidelines for program accreditation. The committee was comprised of representatives from funded and non-funded BIPPs, family violence shelters, Community Supervision & Corrections Departments (CSCDs), TDCJ-Parole Division, Medical Examiners, Psychologists, Marriage & Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and other professionals.
Following the recommendations of the committee, TDCJ-CJAD and TCFV submitted a draft to the committee members, BIP programs, licensing authorities described by Chapters 152, 501, 502, 503 and 505, Occupations Code, and other stakeholders for their review and comments. The current BIPP Guidelines include revised materials directly integrated from those field comments.
Overview of Application Process
TDCJ-CJAD executed the BIPP Accreditation Application Process. CJAD will facilitate the process and will collect the following documents which will be used to obtain probationary accreditation status. The application, supplemental materials, and a policies and procedure manual in accordance with BIPP Guideline standards all require 100 percent compliance in order for Probationary Accreditation Status to be attained.
There is a one-time application fee of $300.
Please contact TDCJ-CJAD for details.

Training Available
To meet required training hours for BIPP Accreditation, TCFV has compiled a variety of training opportunities available locally, statewide, and nationally. These are, by no means, the only opportunities your program has to obtain the required training.
TCFV encourages your program to research its own training venues. Contact your local family violence shelter or non-residential program to find other options for training.
Although this is not an exhaustive list, many CJAD approved trainings are indicated below. To obtain and maintain accreditation, your program needs to obtain training approved by TDCJ-CJAD. For more details or for conference approval, please contact Brandi Lynn Burson, (512) 305-9344, brandilynn.burson@tdcj.state.tx.us.
If your community has a training opportunity that would assist professionals in meeting BIPP Accreditation Training Guidelines and would like to add it to the list below, please contact:
