National Domestic Violence Hotline Celebrates Grand Reopening of Austin Facility

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH), headquartered in Austin, has undergone a complete renovation and expansion as a result of a major gift from Target. The Hotline was created by Congress as a result of the Violence Against Women Act and began operations in 1996. The Hotline will honor and recognize Target and other contributors on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, for their significant role in the renovation of Hotline facilities. Continue Reading »

Family Advocate - $27,500/yr

The Family Advocate is responsible for serving as a resource person to battered women and their children living in the shelter by providing them with the information, referrals and support necessary for them to meet their needs. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Two years’ experience in case management working with individual adults and families. Must be fluent in English/Spanish.

COUNSELOR (Fluent in Spanish) - $34,500/year

Responsible for intake, clinical/risk assessment and counseling for adult and child survivors of sexual and domestic violence and their families. Counselor will provide individual, group and family counseling as needed. Knowledge of human development, family systems and appropriate therapy modalities for sexual and domestic violence survivors required. Requirements: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field preferred. Will consider substituting relevant experience for degree. Must be fluent in Spanish. Full-time position (40 hrs. per week) includes working 2 nights per week. Nonresidential counseling setting. . Bicultural strongly encouraged to apply.

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES ADVOCACY COORDINATOR - $32,500 commensurate with experience

The CPS Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for providing expert support and advocacy for staff and clients of the HHSC-CPS Investigations Unit when families have a critical overlap of partner violence in the home. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field and 2 years’ relevant experience required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. One year of training or community education experience is required. Experience and/or education that pertains to working with children with an understanding of their developmental skills and experience working with individual women are required. Experience with the CPS system preferred.
