At the end of a hot day down a county road near Evadale, it all came down to a baseball bat versus a gun. Tammy Jones allegedly shot her husband Roy Jones in the chest and killed him, then called 911 to report it.

Now another woman has spoken up to say that she was a girlfriend of Roy Jones 26 years ago, and she says he was an abuser then.

Kimberly Denton has written a letter to the editor (see Viewpoint page 8A) in which she

says, “He was a very cruel person.”

She has itemized the stages of abuse that finally led her to escape with the help of others.

“My life has gone on and been better (since the escape), but those events have affected my life, and will always affect me,” Denton said in a phone interview last week. “That could have been me.”
