Community Educator, SAHELI for Asian Families—35 or 40hr/week position
The Community Educator will be responsible for increasing awareness of issues related to domestic violence, educating the Asian communities about available intervention and prevention services and collaborating with mainstream service providers with the broader vision of changing societal norms and attitudes that would lead to ending domestic violence and other forms of oppression. The Community Educator will report directly to the Executive Director.Â
Essential Job Functions:
- Organize and develop presentations to the Asian community about domestic violence issues and available resources
- Organize seminars, workshops, book readings, information booths, documentary film screenings, and other educational events
- Develop and/or update brochures, handouts, and other educational material and coordinate their translation into Asian languages
- Conduct awareness campaigns within the Asian community
- Interface with the Asian community and become a resource for community information in regards to other social service issues that affect Asian immigrants
- Build allies with community organizations and businesses for effective outreach
- Develop trainings about the barriers faced by Asian survivors for the legal community, law enforcement and other service providers
- Work on collaborative projects with ally service providers
- Evaluate program and report project data and progress status to the Executive Director
- Perform other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Strong public speaking skills
- Strong knowledge of Asian cultures, respect for all cultures, and ability to interact with diverse groups of people
- Knowledge of issues related immigrants and social services
- Event planning and project management skills
- Organization skills, problem solving skills, creativity, and flexibility
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
- Must have own transportation to travel frequently within the metropolitan area
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and the use of the Internet
- Familiarity with one or more Asian languages, preferably Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog or Hindi.
- Be willing to work occasional nights and weekends
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant life experience
- Experience in nonprofit sector
Specifications:
- 35 or 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekend commitments
- Salary range for 35 hour week $1800-2000/month plus health benefits
- Salary range for 40 hour week $2125-2291/month plus health benefits
U.S. work permit required
