Domestic Violence Can Increase During Holidays
Reported by: Edward Moody
(Rochester, N.Y.) — Many of us think of the holidays as the most wonderful time of the year, but, for many others, it’s also a time of stress and anxiety that can lead to domestic violence.
In the past few weeks, there have been increased notable incidents in the Rochester-area: a man from Greece shot by police as he tried to stab his wife; a woman killed by the father of her children outside of a friend’s home; and, most recently, a husband who allegedly confessed to severely beating his wife before police found what they believe to be her body in Williamson.
Psychotherapist Gary Wolk Wolk said the cycle of abuse typically starts with a man’s belief that he’s more important than a woman.
