GETMAD to Host “A Day to Shine” Spring Prom Fashion Show
GETMAD (Girls Engaged in Making a Difference), a Westlake High School (WHS) service organization, will hold its First Annual “A Day to Shine: Prom Fashions from Morning to Night” benefit spring fashion extravaganza on March 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Austin Country Club located at 4408 Long Champ Drive.
Ms. Jaslene Gonzalez, the 2007 America’s Top Model Winner, will serve as the event’s guest speaker and joining Ms. Gonzalez as emcee will be Ms. Kristin Armstrong.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this very exciting benefit event”, stated Ms. Gonzalez. She went on to say that “Teen dating abuse is an ever-increasing social problem which we must all discuss and address”. Joining Ms. Gonzalez in commenting on the March 29 event, Ms. Armstrong asserted that “The funds raised from this fashion show will go a long way to support the ongoing Helpline effort to address, prevent and eliminate teen dating abuse among our teens”.
GETMAD, created in 2006 by a group of WHS young ladies, seeks to serve Austin area organizations which are in need of financial assistance. Proceeds from this first-ever prom fashion show will benefit the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (NTDAH).
Located in Westlake, ‘loveisrespect.org, National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline, was officially launched last year in partnership with Liz Claiborne. NTDAH offers real-time one-on-one support, information and advocacy from trained Peer Advocates 24 hours a day to teens involved in dating abuse relationships. Concerned parents, teachers, clergy, law enforcement officials and service providers may also access the Helpline for assistance and information.
